Back quivers are worn and secured to the archer’s back via straps, with the nock ends protruding above the dominant hand’s shoulder. Arrows can thus be drawn over the shoulder rapidly by the nock. While popular in cinema and 20th century art for depictions of medieval European characters (you know the ones), this style of quiver is rarely illustrated contemporaneously in medieval Europe; it was however used widely by various cultures from North America, Asia and Africa.
